“Colour is a power which directly influence the soul.”
Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944)
The paintings deal with an intimate, simple and recognizable theme – portrait. The theme is very close to me, since in my paintings I am focused on an individual, their inner life and my perception of their reality.
This series of portraits depicts my family. The models in the paintings are mainly static, shown in natural poses, and aware that they are taking part in the creative process. The emphasis is on the model’s psychological expression, as well as the relation between the model and the artist. The strong, heavy coat of paint and intense colors accentuate emotional expressiveness. As a painter, I focused on the ability of colors to directly express my experience of portrait painting, with a desire to show the passion and true artistic experience.
For me, as a painter, the color is the means of expression, certain aspiration, what I see in nature – however, I see color not only as a means of coloring, but as a means of communication of higher level.
In my opinion, to truly take pleasure in art, it is most important to be open-minded and free-spirited, because the works of art are as boundless and unpredictable as true human beings.
